A veteran member of the staff of the Decatur and Adams County parks and recreation departments is stepping down after a long and distinguished career.
It was announced at Tuesday’s meetings of Decatur City Council and its board of works that Nan Everett is retiring after 50 years, effective in May.

She currently serves as leisure services manager.
“What a great employee Nan has been for the parks department,” Mayor Dan Rickord said in making the announcement. “I can’t imagine how many kids she has touched in all those years.”
Rickord chuckled as he said he remembers when he was going to “tumbling tots” as a youngster at the now-demolished Lincoln School and participated in a program run by Everett.
“She has such a great positive attitude,”he added.
In her resignation letter, Everett expressed how much she enjoyed working with other members of the department, and how much she learned from them.
