SAFE in Adams County has two big events in April, both in downtown Decatur
The SAFE (Supporting All Families Everyday) organization held a Celebration of Children and Families on Tuesday, April 4, at the courthouse. Adams County Prosecutor Jeremy Brown spoke at the event at the courthouse, and the planting of a pinwheel garden followed.
A SAFE Family Carnival is scheduled for Saturday, April 29, on the Madison St. Plaza (moving to Riverside Center in the event of inclement weather).
At its recent meeting, city council approved use of the plaza from 1 to 3 p.m., with First St. to be closed in that area for fire and police department vehicles on hand. It was noted that 200 to 300 people are expected to attend.
In a statement, SAFE said: “Join us as we celebrate the youth and children of our community and many teachers and staff, agencies and volunteers who have supported them over the past year. The Indiana Department of Child Services, Firefly Children and Family Alliance, Healthy Families, Adams-Wells County Crisis Center, and SAFE in Adams County welcome Jeremy Brown, Adams County Prosecutor, who will be the featured speaker, followed by planting of the pinwheel garden.”
Four members of the organization were on hand for the council meeting and passed out pinwheels, Pinwheels for Prevention, SAFE calls them.
Mayor Dan Rickord read a proclamation declaring April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Decatur. “This is a great cause and I appreciate you doing this, for fighting the good fight.”
The organization says the pinwheel represents Prevent Child Abuse, noting that pinwheels “are a positive and loving symbol of childhood.
“The month of April gives us the opportunity to recognize and encourage everyone that they have a role and a responsibility in preventing child abuse and neglect.”
